Officially launched on April 27, 2007, Planning for Healthy Communities in the G21 Region was developed by a working group comprised of representatives from the G21 Councils: the City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire, Golden Plains Shire, Colac Otway Shire and the Borough of Queenscliffe as well as the Barwon Primary Care Forum and local business and community groups.
The three year plan includes:
- preparing for population change by providing health data to guide regional resource planning;
- developing healthy local transport solutions such as creating walking and cycling routes;
- promoting greater active recreation activities for young people; and
- supporting healthy eating options through all local government activities.
