Economic Development Pillar
The G21 Economic Development Pillar works collaboratively to improve the region’s prosperity by becoming a globally significant competitor in industry sectors of high comparative advantage, generating and attracting skilled workers and business investment within a sustainable business environment. The Pillar supports activities that:
- Expand current industries and foster new and emerging industries
- Build enabling infrastructure
- Develop a capable workforce
- Market the region.
Priority Projects
The G21 Board has endorsed seven Economic Development Pillar projects as ‘G21 Priority Projects’:

To finalise planning and begin development of Apollo Bay Harbour, servicing local community and underpinning expansion of the town’s economy through tourism. -
Managing areas of the G21 region entrenched with disadvantage; improving mental/physical health, decreasing violence/crime, increasing education and... -
To support the expansion of domestic services at Avalon and support Linfox in establishing Avalon as an international passenger airport. -
A purpose built, private public partnership funded centre for conventions and exhibitions situated between Limeburners Point and Eastern Beach. -
To establish a Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases to provide research, diagnosis and risk management advice in the important area of zoonotic diseases. -
Serviced industrial land, facilitating sustainable development to accommodate more than 10,000 jobs. -
A high quality precinct incorporating commercial aquaculture and recreational fishing, boating, passive and active recreation and tourism activities. -
A purpose built cruise liner facility accommodating visiting cruise ships, naval vessels and tall ships. -
Establish the headquarters and implementation of an administration system in Geelong to manage the NDIS.
