Alcoa seeks feedback on Anglesea plan

Following consultation on the draft Alcoa Anglesea Mine Rehabilitation and Closure Plan last year, Alcoa is now inviting the community to provide feedback on a draft Concept Master Plan for its freehold landholdings in Anglesea.

The draft plan, produced for community feedback, proposes possible future land uses for four areas of freehold land Alcoa owns including at the former power station site, within the former mine, and adjacent to the Anglesea township.

The draft plan also incorporates potential changes to the existing land tenure arrangements, consistent with the Anglesea Futures Draft Land Use Plan, to facilitate the realisation of proposed land use directions.

Alcoa’s integrated plan recognises the role its land could play in:

  • connecting people to Anglesea’s valued landscapes;
  • creating a new tourism destination for Anglesea and the Great Ocean Road; and
  • creating economic opportunities for Anglesea and the wider region.

The draft plan proposes a potential major eco-tourism facility, accommodation and community facilities, through to the conservation and enhancement of high value native flora, and the ability to facilitate the delivery of sustainable residential housing and tourism accommodation.

The draft plan is informed by a range of inputs including broad community consultation, consideration of the site’s natural attributes and histories, future economic opportunities for Anglesea and the wider region, and key planning documents including the Anglesea Futures Draft Land Use Plan and the Anglesea Structure Plan.

Alcoa is seeking feedback about the draft plan to help inform its submission to the Anglesea Futures land planning process.

Note: Alcoa planned this to coincide with the Anglesea Futures community event being held from 10am to 1pm at the Senior Citizens Club to allow people to conveniently attend both sessions if they wish.

• Monday 12 February, 2:30pm to 5:30pm, Anglesea Memorial Hall

• Thursday 15 February, 2:30pm to 5:30pm, outside the Anglesea IGA

After reviewing the plan, you may wish to complete an online survey.

Alcoa welcomes feedback on the draft Concept Master Plan and encourages views by 20 February 2018.
