Bigger, Better Trains for our Busiest Regional Lines

News

Geelong and Ballarat line passengers are set for a more reliable and comfortable journey with a re-elected Labor Government set to make a massive order of new trains.

The Labor Government has committed $340 million to build 18 new three-car trains for Geelong and Ballarat, to be delivered by 2021.

The Labor Government has also invested $15 million to improve comfort and reliability on the existing standard gauge Classic fleet trains and work is underway on new trains for the North East Line, ready for when the upgrade is complete.

Works are currently underway on every regional rail line in our state and as these works are completed, we get on with delivering more modern trains to travel across the entire network.

Labor will place this order in our first year of government with all trains to be delivered by 2021, supporting local jobs in Dandenong and the south east.

As part of this investment, platform works at Southern Cross Station will also be completed as well as funding towards stabling and cleaning facilities to support these new trains.
