New CEO for Borough of Queenscliffe

The Borough of Queenscliffe Council has appointed Martin Gill as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Gill will commence at Queenscliffe on 7 October bringing more than a decade of local government experience to the role.

"Council will be delighted to welcome Mr Gill to the Borough of Queenscliffe as our new CEO," Mayor Bob Merriman said.

"After a comprehensive process, we are confident that Mr Gill has the combination of experience and vision to guide the Borough through the next five years."

Mr Gill was selected from a long list of applicants from across Australia as part of a rigorous recruitment process that included multiple rounds of interviews.  Council also appointed Elaine Carbines, CEO of G21, as independent member of the selection panel.

“Getting this decision right has been a top priority for Council,” Cr Merriman said. “That’s why we went over and above the requirements of the Local Government Act at every step of the process.”

The search for a new CEO began after current CEO Lenny Jenner announced his resignation in April. Mr Jenner is leaving the Borough after almost 11 years as CEO.

"Succeeding a CEO after such a long period of excellent service is always a challenging task," Cr Merriman said. "Council extends its thanks to Mr Jenner for his outstanding leadership, and wishes him all the best for the future."

Mr Gill has extensive experience in local government in both Victoria and Tasmania, most recently as a General Manager at Meander Valley Council in Tasmania (this General Manager role is the equivalent of a Victorian Council CEO).

His family on his Mother’s side have had a connection in Point Lonsdale since the 1920s and he still has family in Point Lonsdale.  Mr Gill is looking forward to introducing himself to the community.
