Queenscliff - Sorrento ferry terminal
Carrying more than 900,000 people and 250,000 vehicles year, the Sorrento - Queenscliff Ferry Service is the busiest car and passenger ferry service in Australia.
Current ferry terminal infrastructure falls well short of the demands of modern travellers.
Significant investment is required to develop both terminals to meet expected visitor standards, with upgraded facilities and bathrooms, disabled access, opportunities for retail such as cafes and tourism ventures and improved car parking.
Searoad Ferries, who has operated the service since 1987, proposes to construct new, world-class tourism infrastructure to help drive the visitor economy and regional transport connections.
Searoad Ferries has worked closely with the Borough of Queenscliffe, Mornington Peninsula Council and the State Government on the opportunity to create significant improvements to traffic infrastructure and transport options around the terminals.
What has been committed
The Federal Government has committed $10 million towards a new ferry terminal at Queenscliff under the Geelong City Deal.
